Established in Europe for over 160 years, Elster operates in every European country and has production plants and testing facilities in countries as diverse as Slovakia, Benelux, France, the UK, Spain, Germany, Russia and Turkey.

A market where the vast majority of the population have access to energy and water services, the region is Elster’s major revenue earner.

While forthcoming European Union Directives on energy saving will undoubtedly encourage utilities throughout the region to adopt the latest metering technologies, European countries are at various stages of maturity in different sectors.

For example, in Scandinavia, high electricity consumption has resulted in legislation ensuring that utilities have upgraded their metering technology to take frequent readings; while in Italy the trend is towards jointly installed, automatically read, gas, electricity and water meters. Across the whole region the replacement of ageing meters is also a huge driver for business.
